Mr. Chaker teaches the Digital Art, Landscape Design, and Architectural Design courses. When he is not working with students in the architecture studio or the SDA garden, Chaker is designing residential landscapes right here in Encinitas. However, he is most passionate about supporting students in designing public spaces for SDA’s campus that reflect their needs and identities.
Chaker developed the concept for the SDA Architectural Design Program while earning his Masters degree at NewSchool of Architecture and Design. His thesis research, titled Restoration to Identity, explores how students can use high school landscapes to reduce depressive episodes by establishing a sense of belongingness and place attachment to their campus. The research suggests that this is critical for identity regulation in adolescents. The mission of the program is to support students in creating spaces that promote social and emotional well-being, sustainability, and school connectedness. |
