SDA prides itself on fostering our artists to have their own voice. Our Mustang Gallery is a showcase for their artistic endeavors. Located near the Mosaic Cafe, our gallery exhibitions change every few weeks.
SDA Gallery History:
"It was 1996. I was standing by the old water fountain watching a band play at the little (new at the time) stage. I took a good look at the roof construction and the cement floor. This space used to be the old concession stand for the cafeteria. I went to Fenical’s office (SDA's 1st Principal) and asked her to come and see. I told her that all we needed was one wall, a sliding door and some lighting. I told her that I would build it during the summer. She got back to me and told me that the District wouldn’t allow a teacher to build on a school site. I drew up the plans and gave them to her and suggested that we try to find the money. I left for the summer and when I returned she had the gallery built. Our first show was dedicated to Fran Fenical. It was my idea and my design but she built it. The only thing she didn’t go for was my idea to name it, "The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art". She thought that that may have already been taken" -John Ratajkowski

Cesar Chavez Day Art Show
The San Dieguito Academy Student Gallery will be holding a Cesar Chavez day art show on March 31, 2023. Hispanic and Latino history surrounds students here at San Dieguito Academy, and a student-run gallery is essential in providing a space where that culture can thrive and be showcased. The San Dieguito Academy art department has thoughtfully held the art show on Cesar Chavez day, a federal holiday in honor of an Mexican-American individual who dedicated his life to aid migrant farm workers. In his journey in fighting for immigrant workers, Cesar Chavez co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, a pillar of modern society that ensures workers with wages, medical insurance, and adequate living conditions. Cesar Chavez is an example of the one of many Latino individuals throughout history who have made the world a better place through helping those around them. Although Mr. Chavez is not directly related to art, his legacy has influenced millions and continues to aid workers around the world. Today’s artwork has been provided by the Hispanic and Latino community in an effort to showcase the vibrant culture and rich history that hundreds of students at San Dieguito Academy all share. The San Dieguito Academy art department believes it to be paramount to provide a space to every community who seeks to showcase their talent. In all, today’s art show in the student gallery is dedicated to the Hispanic and Latino community in order to showcase culture, history, and talent. -Armando Martinez, Class of 2023 |

AP Art Students, "Gumbo" - December 2022
Gumbo exhibits a collection of artworks made up by SDA's AP Art students. This presentation is here to show the best of this semester's AP work. Each participating student personally selected a piece of theirs to be displayed. Welcome to an environment full of artworks where each and every piece is unique from the next. Whether their differences be in style, expression or medium, like gumbo, these works are a mix, highlighting the different flavors and how they compliment each other. We have also made a poem for you. Dig in, and don't go bacon my heart.
